Before he became the King of Swing, clarinetist Benny Goodman was a bandleader and jazz musician seeking the right sound and the right band. 1930-1933 collects music from those early years when, in Goodman’s combos, one could find other stars-to-be, such as Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, and Bunny Berigan, playing hot-tempo, large-group jazz. Casual Goodman fans are directed to his later Columbia and Victor sides, but collectors and devotees will go mad for this.
