Laure Briard sings with the same simple joy that Françoise Hardy did in the early 60s, mesmerizing international audiences despite their inability to understand the lyrics. It’s a powerful indicator of music’s capacity to cross language barriers. Briard’s similarity to any of the French Yé-yé girls from decades past is slim, but there is a warm resonance in her inflections that recall the purity of that time period. There’s also a heavy Stereolab vibe happening on some of the groovier tracks, but again…that might just be the French sending me to those comparisons.

She sashays over 10 tracks on Révélation, gliding over twinkling pianos, jazz-tinged guitar strides and vintage organs. Apparently, everyone else loves her as much as I do because there are currently only 15 of the vinyl left. Take a listen as quick as you can, and head to the buy link to pick up one of the few remaining copies. Bonsoir, mon ami.
