With his stunning debut album Mine, saxophonist Kosuke Mine came on to the jazz scene in 1970 like a shooting star. Less than four months from that debut recording, he went into the studio to record his second album with the rhythm section of the then-top band, the Sadao Watanabe Quartet.
Guitarist Yoshiaki Masuo, bassist Yoshio "Chin" Suzuki and drummer Hiroshi Murakami at the time were free on Mondays and they started to jam with the young saxophonist. For this recording, trombonist Takashi Imai joined to make a quintet. Most of the compositions are modal in nature, and the intensity of improvisations and the aggressiveness of the rhythm section are reminiscent of the John Coltrane Quartet. An impressive second album by Mine, who had been virtually unknown a year earlier.
