This 1959 album is quite superb. If you love country,Bluegrass or Folk of the Woodie Guthrie and Leadbetter ilk then go no further than this. Some quite superb renditions of classic songs arranged by Lonnie. The quite sublime You Pass Me By,and Miss Otis Regrets are some of Lonnies best vocal performances. The version here of House of The Rising Sun,done a few years later by The Animals,is a magnificent 4 mins of bliss, with stunning support from his skiffle band,in particular guitarist Les Bennetts,as is his Bennetts work on Talking Guitar Blues(U.S version),which is far superior musically and vocally to the more cockneyed Uk Version.

A great version of John Hardy, and two great "feel good you just have to sing and bop along too" songs in Fancy Talking Tinker and Mr.Froggy which no matter how many times a sing to,i just have to laugh. This is a gem of an album and it is a great shame that it doesnt get much attention. An essential buy for anybody who enjoys quality music. And he was British. He was a big influence on so many bands of the time, particularly Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch from The Shadows who had their own skiffle group before forming The Shads,or should I say The Drifters,at that time.
