Bruce Springsteen - Broadcasting from Broadway (Live) (2018)

In October 2017 Bruce Springsteen opened his residency at the Walter Kerr Theatre, 219 West 48th Street, New York City. Titled Springsteen On Broadway, the show was formatted as a solo performance by The Boss, in which he related his musical and personal history, interspersing musical performances on guitar and piano with spoken word anecdotes and reflections on his life and work. Springsteen On Broadway was part of a general theme of reflection in Springsteen s work during the second decade of the millennium. It opened a year after the publication of his autobiography, Born To Run, and the accompanying album retrospective, Chapter & Verse. Of the Broadway shows Springsteen said: I wanted to do some shows that were as personal and as intimate as possible. I chose Broadway for this project because it has the beautiful old theaters which seemed like the right setting for what I have in mind. My show is just me, the guitar, the piano and the words and music. Some of the show is spoken, some of it is sung. It loosely follows the arc of my life and my work . The show met with immediate and widespread critical acclaim, and in June 2018 Springsteen was honored with a special award at the 72nd annual Tonys. Broadcasting From Broadway collects together songs performed by Springsteen during his shows at the Walter Kerr Theatre and presents them in the same running order. The tracks have been selected from live radio performances that span Bruce s career, illustrating what he describes as the arc of my life and my work in a sonic time capsule that revisits some of the key moments in a remarkable journey.
