Jérémie Ternoy Trio - Bloc (2008)

BLOC is the second album from the euro-based Jérémie Ternoy Trio. The approach of leader and pianist Ternoy is jagged, urbane, dynamic, and pensive. The lyricism of Chick Corea and the conciseness of Paul Bley combine naturally with the language of 20th-century classical composers such as Bela Bartók and Erik Satie. Ternoy composed all the pieces here, but it's the trio itself, with its remarkable empathy and interplay, that makes BLOC more than just another piano date. Silence is also part of their musical arsenal, as what one leaves out is as important as what’s being played.
