The Zimbo Trio is a Brazilian instrumental ensemble established in 1964 in São Paulo, originally comprised by Amilton Godoy (piano), Luís Chaves (bass) and Rubinho Barsotti (drums). The Trio was one of the most influential groups of Brazilian music in the second half of the 20th century.
An exponent of the paulista current of Bossa Nova, they have relied heavily on Godoy’s academic-schooled, brilliant playing style. After their debut in 1965, the Trio traveled extensively throughout the Americas and Europe.
In 1965 they were appointed as permanent performers in the TV Record station’s program Fino da Bossa, presented by Elis Regina and Jair Rodrigues, dedicated to the fostering of novel musical talents.
In recent times, Itamar Collaço replaced Luís Chaves, who died on February 22, 2007. The trio's discography spans more than 40 albums, often in combination with other celebrated Brazilian performers. This is Zimbo Trio - Zimbo (1976), for RGE, featuring the special guests Hector Costita and Heraldo do Monte.
