Daytoner - Off the Hook (2018)

‘Off The Hook’ is the debut album from Daytoner's live band, fronted by the funk soul firepower of singer Lucy Richards.

Moss Daytoner has been producing soulful breaks, remixes and edits from his Cornish shed since 2009, attracting a loyal following from DJs but a simple suggestion to add a live element to Daytoner’s sets in 2015, rapidly became a festival act that blurred the boundaries between live band & DJ performance. Over the last 3 festival seasons, Daytoner have evolved their live set into an original show compiled from their own funk & soul flavoured floor-fillers. Their unique line-up of live brass, bass and breaks combined with familiar hooks and samples from the decks has proved popular at festivals including Bestival, Boardmasters, Boomtown, Secret Garden Party, Wilderness and Lovebox and special events including the grand opening of the Blue Whale Exhibit at the Natural History Museum.

'Off The Hook' refers to the decision to replay and replace all the samples originally used in the live shows with their own musicianship to connect with Lucy’s new lyrics. The result is an album packed with new versions of some of their biggest live tracks, evolving from edits used in Daytoner’s DJ sets, alongside original brand new material written from scratch by the band.

18 months after first writing and recording, the band finally completed their sample-free LP and the first tracks to emerge have attracted the support of Craig Charles and Chris Hawkins on BBC6 Music who described 'I Get By' as a "Stunning revision of a classic" and this track was also included on Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club Vol.5 compilation album released in Dec 2017. 'Needed You' received regular airplay, even before release via BBC Introducing on BBC Radio One and 'Second Stomp' was recently awarded single of the week and received daily plays on BBC Radio Cornwall.
