Jesse Brown - Sadness (2018)

'Room for One More' was inspired by the heart wrenched writings of a friend who had very recently lost her husband and father of their children to cancer. Jesse, moved by her words, utilized sympathetic resonance in an attempt to capture the intimacy and delicate energy of a couple's last moments together.
'Ascension' is an improvised piece that will have you gently floating up through the clouds and looking back to the earth as you rise up into the atmosphere.
'California Angels', another unedited improvisation, gives the listener a moment to reflect on the challenges and difficulties of everyday life, even amidst beauty, there is sadness...but ultimately hope.
'Good Winter' takes you for a cold walk through a sleeping forest that we know will flourish once again in good time...if you can win the fight for survival in a seemingly endless cold.
'Sadness', the album's title track, is a Chopin like sonata that was written for the future funeral of his beloved and trusty terrier, Fozzie Bear.
'Amazing Grace' has been one of Jesse's favourite pieces to perform at his local Jazz club for many years. He was asked to play it for the funeral of his friend's father many moons ago, and when he did play it in a room full of mourning friends and family of the deceased, his heart almost went through his chest. The overwhelmingly powerful feeling of having people come together to mourn and help each other through trying times was enough to make a lasting memory in Jesse's heart.
'The Eagle' stands for independence and strength as one fights to move forward after suffering a loss.
'The First Snow' is a reminder of the beauty of the beginning of the season of darkness and lifelessness.
'While You Lay Sleeping' was originally recorded in the same session as Jesse's Trilogy EP, but wasn't released due to Jesse's Dog Fozzie Bear grumbling in a dream at the very end of the quaint and improvised album closer. It has simmered in the virtual vault for long enough, and makes an excellent finish to this collection of piano pieces.
