On November 3, jazz singer Hilda Kazasyan had the official launch of her new album “Jazz & me” in a Sofia night club.
Thirteen well-known evergreens interpreted in a novel way – this is what Hilda Kazasyan offers her fans in this new project. The arrangements belong to Hristo Yotsov (percussions), Zhivko Petrov (piano), Mihail Yosifov (trumpet) and Milen Kukosharov (piano) – all in the limelight of the Bulgarian jazz stage in recent years. Together they present world famous jazz standards.
Special guest of the album promotion on November 3 was pop singer Lyubo Kirov with whom Hilda Kazasyan performed the song Love. Hristo Yotsov is the author of the arrangement of nine of the pieces included in Hilda’s new album. He is also the producer.
How did Hilda Kazasyan make her choice of songs?
“It is a matter of personal feeling as well as of my stage experience watching how people respond to my music. Summertime is one of the most popular songs ever. I think that I found my way of interpreting it which is absolutely different from all other versions that I have heard so far. There is no specific word that I could use to describe the synthesis of all 13 pieces in this album – I was mainly guided by my inner sense and motivation”, the singer says.
“Jazz & Me” is Hilda’s fifth album. Being one of the most cherished Bulgarian jazz singers, she has four recorded albums to date: “Why not”, “Zip your mouth” (1996),, “Jazz & Samba” (2005), and “Stop speaking, stop speaking” (2009).
“We made an experiment in which Adriana Yankulova filmed the entire album. The shots resulted in a photographic session that shows our work during rehearsals and concerts. We used the photos for the CD cover. And the film will be screened in February. It is when our national tour starts across 10 towns and cities in Bulgaria. We will perform in theater and concert halls. In my opinion, musicians need to be on the stage and give concerts!”, Hilda says.
