The initials of the surnames to seal the meeting and the agreement between three musicians already known in the field of Italian indie music: Stefano Ghittoni (Dining Rooms), Bruno Dorella (Bachi Di Pietra, OvO, Ronin) and Francesco Giampaoli (Sacred Hearts) , producer and founder of the Brutture Moderne label for which this "Spazio 1918" comes out). The work has developed over the course of two years with Ghittoni who gave the la with his vintage electronic cues on which the trio then built the various pieces. The result is an album with a prevailing cinematic and imaginative suggestion, many short soundtracks for films never filmed, but which sink into the filmic and musical imaginary. Among the mysterious and restless atmospheres of Lynch (the rarefied and nocturnal atmospheres, with a hypnotic guitar tour of Retrophuturo), the melancholy epic of Morricone (the wonderful and evocative guitar of Astro Blues) and the lysergic exoticism of the Italian soundtracks of 70s (the jaunty vibraphone of the delicious title track) unravels a sound plot that ranges from glitch, vintage electronics, African percussion, field recordings (the three short tracks titled Interferenze), psychedelic, geometric beats, to jazz, to the ambient (the dark landscapes drawn by the moog and the guitar in X-Rated)
As the beautiful cover suggests, the music of the GDG Modern Trio lives in an abstract dimension, projected into a mental space that oscillates between past and future. As in the only song sung, Spirit, in which the warm and persuasive voice of Ghittoni pronounces words that seem to fade away, wrapped in the soft electronic sounds that fade in the end on a dreamy guitar solo. In "Spazio 1918" everything is orchestrated with great sense of measure and balance, each piece has the impression that it has been finely chiseled with the passion and attention of the best artisans, a job to take away more than to add that has led to a really good and remarkable result, where experimentation is perfectly combined with a great enjoyment and even the clear expressive simplicity, just over half an hour, but of high quality music and strong evocative power.
