Born in Skövde, a small town in the south west of Sweden, Petter Lindhagen started playing guitar at the age of ten and started his first band a year later. After exploring guitar music and playing in several bands he moved to Stockholm, bought himself a computer and a recording programme and started to record songs that would later become the music of Tired Tape Machine.
Loosely inspired by strange phenomena such as the Russian radio signal UVB-71 and the hum phenomenon, “Above Sea Level” differs from Tired Tape Machine’s earlier work and is the first release for Finest Ego. As always, there’s a cinematic atmospheric vibe and, even though the music relies more on electronic beats and synths than before, there’s still an organic feel. Utilizing synths, sampling, and in-studio sonic experiments in order to expand Tired Tape Machine’s characteristic soundscape, the expression is familiar but the framework is new.
