Svengile - 1977: "It was forty years ago", just as in Sgt. Pepper's, but double
I had just quitted my first prog-jazz band "Arti & Mestieri" but I had also bought my first synthesiser, an Arp 2600; I was deeply in love with electronic music, trying to deal with analogue synthesis and sequencer programming.
In Italy in 1977 there were just a few musicians capable of programming and playing these magic boxes so I was in huge demand as a composer and producer for electronic Italo Disco . I mostly recorded guitars , bass and synths all by myself and used the renowned "Mr. Louis Atzori" (R.I.P.) as a session drummer .
I worked on arrangements and sounds in my own recording facility in Turin and then I joined forces with big studios like "G7 Recording" to produce masters for many disco labels .
The futuristic sound of songs like "Pop Corn" was a true inspiration, leading me to experiment with sequencers and
synth-pots to invent new sounds for dance records .
In 1977 "Stratosferic Band" became my first adventure with Italo Disco and from 1977 to 1986 I produced around 30 dance records like Ben Norman, Radiation, Make Up, Bryan Baker, Mono Band, Red Gang and more; I had also big worldwide hits with O'Rayan - She's My Queen in Spain and Fantasy - He's Number One in USA.
All in all, it was just great fun and I could not be more happy that these recordings are being re-released in 2017-2018
My deepest thanks to the brilliant Gianluca "I-Robots" Pandullo for taking care of this fine remastering from the original "Voom Voom Music" mastertapes exclusively granted by the Ivo Lunardi's Family "Pick-Up" Disco Club Turin, Italy
