He possesses one of the most recognizable voices in music, a voice that led LTD through a string of top hits in the 70s and that won for him millions of fans as a solo singer during the 80s and beyond. Of course, we're talking about the great Jeffrey Osborne, one of our all-time favorite male soul vocalists.
Five years ago, Mr. Osborne delivered an incredible album of standards with A Time For Love, and we've been anxiously waiting for more music since then. He's been plenty busy touring over the past few years, but he's now a part of the Artistry Records family and will be releasing his new album, Worth It All, on May 25th.
Jeffrey says: "I wanted to go back to my roots and do an old school R&B album…what I call a 'Grown Folks' record. I approached it like things from the past that influenced me then wrote my versions. For example, 'Let a Brotha Know' sounds like a song I would have done with my old band L.T.D. while 'Saving My Love' has an Island ballad vibe like things Lionel Richie used to write. I produced the whole album and wrote all of the songs except for one that I co-wrote with my son, Jeffrey Osborne Jr., titled 'Work it.' I wrote the melody and the words while he came up with the track and raps on it. I'm using the guys from my road band along with a few friends like Gerald Albright and Rick Braun. I believe there’s still an audience for real music and songs about lasting love. It's important to me to maintain integrity with our music."
We'll be featuring the full album next month, but in the meantime we have a special treat for SoulTrackers. The title track from the upcoming disc is a gentle ballad that features an electric piano and that voice. It will get you excited to hear more. Check out "Worth It All" and welcome Jeffrey Osborne back!
