Are We There Yet? is the long awaited 5th solo album by Paisley born singer songwriter Jill Jackson, a record that bears the hallmarks of a 25yr musical journey that has taken her from Paisley to Top of The Pops to playing in every State of America (50 States in 50 Days.....yes really!)
In the time since 2012’s 5-star reviewed ‘The Ones That Got Away’, Jill temporarily relocated to Nashville where she became immersed in Music City’s culture of storytelling songwriting. Personal struggles and a bucket list hike of the Grand Canyon saw the Celtic Connections award winning artist return over flowing with lyrical and musical inspiration. These momentous changes of life and reflective nature flow through every word and note of the 10 new songs on Are We There Yet? – an uplifting, accomplished, mature record.
“These songs fell out of my heart and guitar with a little bit of country, rock n roll and old timey.”
Produced by Boo Hewerdine (Eddi Reader, Emily Barker), Are We There Yet? combines innovative, playful arrangements that would not sound out of place in Lindy Hop, Harlem or the heart of the deep South. With an unabashed embrace of gleeful, melodic choruses delivered in Jill’s unmistakeable warm and heart-wrenching voice.
“Boo Hewerdine was incredible to work with and we were on the same crazy wavelength from day one. He completly understood my vision for this album and the sound I wanted to create.”
Jill’s work has also attracted the attention of the television and film industry, with her songs “Just Not Myself” and “Genie In A Bottle” cover featuring on several UK & International TV shows.
“Jill Jackson is a songwriting storyteller transporting you into her world through music. Lyrically and vocally tender, beautifully depicting life, love and loss with each well crafted song. A voice reminiscent of the late Karen Carpenter, Jackson’s voice aches with emotion and honesty, drawing you in line by line.”
Over the year Jill has released a total of four solo albums including a limited edition, ‘The Ones That Got Away’. This was independently released via Jackson’s official website in late 2011. It was a simple collection of songs that did not make it onto Jackson’s previous albums and alternate versions of previously released tracks to Jackson’s surprise this album became a major career turning point.
“The Ones That Got Away was a chance to be totally free musically without pressure or restrictions. I could record and produce the songs on that album exactly as I heard them in my head.”
"Are we there yet? asks Jill Jackson on her new album. Well, we’re somewhere Jill that’s for sure. This record contains songs that are a bit more reflective and show Jill developing a maturity and poise into the 21st century. The tunes are great, the singing is great, the band is great and, perhaps most of all, the lyrical quality of the songs sets them apart, making Jill’s statement as they engage and enchant..” Rab Noakes
