LA-based production duo Jerome Potter and Sam Griesemer, better known as DJDS (formerly DJ Dodger Stadium), have released their new album Big Wave More Fire. The pair has been on fire lately and this album finds them working with some huge names across music like Khalid, Empress Of, The-Dream Vic Mensa and Charlie Wilson, among others.
Ever since they contributed on production for five songs for Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo, they have been able to explore avenues and open doors they never thought would be possible. This is allows for some of the collaborations on this record that have hit written all over them.
They bring together their own roots in house, techno and sampling, with the strengths of their collaborators, meshing soothing R&B or pop vocals into a different lane that one normally might hear.
These types of songs provide the audio meat for the album in between do have softer ballads like “I Heard” with Kacy Hill and then more bombastic tracks like “Pick Me Up” with Vory, Kelly Zutrau and Vic Mensa, which uses booming horns in the hook to provide the pick-me-up they are looking for.
The LP crosses over between pop, R&B, hip-hop and electronic in a masterful way. There are the clear singles that will pick you up and then soulful crooners like “No Pain.” It is an even ride, which is rare for hip-hop, pop and R&B these days. The hip-hop beats aren’t over the top and allow the singers to really shine.
