After ten years, Psyched Up Jani's absolute figurehead, Sune Wagner, has chosen to unplug and unleash the band, which in addition to him consisted only of Jacob Jørgensen (bass). The year's awaiting the great breakthrough has tarnished the faith of one of the nineties most distinctive Danish rock bands of the so-called new wave that rolled in across the country at the beginning of this decade. Here they released one more solid album after another. Right from the start, the agenda was set with the Danish-immortal single In Died In My Teens Tonight and the album Sweel, which, with its restless energy and biting noise levels, was an outbreak of grunge rock. With the difficult second edition, the excellent Beats Me, which has to be considered one of Danish rock's best in the nineties, clearly showed that the band was in a rapid development. And with the third long-term entertainer, The Super Peppermint Lounge, Sune Wagner, with his hint to surf-inspired rock a la Phil Spector, showed that he was a talented songwriter beyond the usual who understood to melt it personal with his American influences. And now, Hi-Fi Low Life is set as the last sentence, and it should probably be referred to as Sune Wagner's first solo album, of which 19 out of 24 tracks, the protagonist is in front of a 4-track tape recorder with excess songs from the two last albums, and therefore the sound is also completely undeveloped. This album is for the truly believing hardcore fans and yet it gives a clue to where Wagner's undeniable talent is. Where it would have been nice to have a real band of sound on Inch and the nice people influenced Italian Girl and Don't Wanna Think, which give great reminder of the American singer and songwriter Elliott Smith. That Wagner has often used the noise as the basis of his inner aggressions shows Waiting For The Rain and You're Faster with glowing intensity. Hi-Fi Low Life is a kind of goodbye, now that Psycher Up Janis is night, but fortunately Sune Wagner is today, so he's not looking for a bright path soon.
