Better than most, Karl Richter knew that the Brandenburg Concertos are serious fun and ought to be played that way. There is a sense of joy in these wry readings, of something elevated but at the same time earthy and jaunty and not too pious, that still delights after a quarter of a century-- and nowhere does one get a better feeling for the extraordinary efflorescence of Bach's genius. The accounts are briskly paced and soloistic in approach, with every participant freely involoved. While the intonation is at times a little less than precise, the overall effect is delightfully fresh and musical; and the recordings scarcely show their age. --Ted Libbey

If I feel difference between PCM (WAV) and lossless compression (FLAC, APE, WavPack...) on same sound level about same CD, is it because of ability of Player or Amplifier ?

@olga1001: WAV is the original PCM signal from example a CD. It's not compressed, it's a 1:1 copy. FLAC is a compressed audio file but lossless. It retains all the bits of the original recording but in a smaller file. I you want to store a lot of music, FLAC is the prefered file format. I use EAC for ripping and Foobar2000 for playback. Setting up EAC and Foobar2000 correctly is equally important for perfect playback. If you hear a difference between WAV and FLAC, it probably has to do with the software you have installed.

Thanks for the tip.
Time and load to computer on decompression affect sound quality accompanying more electromagnetic wave, I think.
Why FLAC has 10 level's compressions (lossless uncompressed & from 0 to 8) ?
If same sound quality is ensured, there should be no need for so many levels only because of capacity.
Application developer may have noticed difference.
And HDD & SSD have obviously different sound qualities with same source & same player.
By the way do your ears sometimes feel difference ?

@olga1001: it's not clear what level of compression is the best. What is shure: the more compression, the longer it takes to covert to FLAC. If sound quality has your highest priority, then check if your PC/laptop has a Digital Output (Optical/Coaxial) and use a Digital to Analogue Converter (Like the Cambridge Audio DACMagic 100). Then connect the anlogue Audio Out to your Amplifier. A winner!

My system isn't so high but just switching USB cable from PC to DAC causes difference of sound in spite of the same data.
Such a thing happens among various compressions, I think.
Fortunately this is WAV, you can compress it only with 1 step and compare.
The best sound I think is no compression and SSD but not economical, if so much money, I'll renew my audio system :p
I use what is on internet without decompressing to WAV nor less compression.
