MALAAVIA is a Italian band. Their music is symphonic prog in the Italian tradition with some Arabic and modern experimental sounds. This makes the music a fusion of different expressions. The closest comparisons from the seventies scene could be bands like OSANNA and SAINT JUST.
Malaavia's second album shows again the ability of this group to innovate the progressive rock tradition. Don't get deceived by the definition "Italian school". Yes, this band is Italian and its music may be defined symphonic and melodic. Yet, it's completely different from any kinds of Italian progressive rock you have ever heard. It's a fusion of different musical roots, from arabian music to Neapolitan melodies; and evident traces of progressive rock here and then, mostly during the instrumental parts. What's really progressive, here, is the concept behind the album and its music. It's progressive because the music innovate the existing scenario of the traditional progressive rock (with too many bands imitating the 70's). Malaavia already showed that with their first album, but here they push a step forward- they experiment more widely, even with a nod to Palestinian music in a track. The album lyrics are deep and original, narrating a mental journey of meditation and spirituality. The fusion of styles suggests that everyone, from the present and from the past, as in Italy as in Middle East, has the same burning desire of spirituality. Beyond the phisical limitation of our body.
