Staring Girl are back! In April 2018 her new album "In ein Bild" will be released at KOMBÜSE Schallerzeugnisse. The Hamburg-based band whose debut album was released by K & F Records in 2012 and also various sampler contributions in bustling network label Omaha Records can call their own, has used the time on the one hand extensive touring, inter alia, as support from Gisbert to Knyphausen and Erdmöbel. On the other hand, intensive work has been done on new songs, since 2015 in a partly new cast with three original members of the Gisbert-zu-Knyphausen-Band.
The new album, which can be situate between Americana, singer-songwriter and indie pop somewhere, was taken in summer 2016 Watt 's sound studio at the North Frisian North Sea coast live and analog on tape.
"In a Picture" is a musical road movie. Sometimes in stark black and white, elsewhere in psychedelic colors. Guitar flags blow past the car. Warm sounds flicker over the asphalt, pile up to the mirage, which then decays again in a beautiful crash in the rearview mirror. In the headlight cone drums whirl up dust on the horizon, a luminous refrain rises. The engine buzzes and whines. In the backseat: Songwriter Steffen Nibbe, who sums up the observed in idiosyncratic prose and sings in sober tourist melancholy.
Great thoughts in everyday scenery. So the seemingly private suddenly becomes universally valid:
"Later, the cars have all the headlights on and the clouds have edges / is there any luck without edges if you break lines?" (Pictures on the wall).
"The toothbrush that we shared in this short time / Stands alone in the toothbrush cup and speaks of togetherness" (quarter before nothing).
On "In a Picture" Nibbe digs lyrically through the chaos and in the end "the crooked circle and black becomes white" (black to white), while around him the music in sunny colors explodes.
In the 32-page booklet, photographs by the Kiel photographer Victor Kataev accompany the printed texts. Kataev, of whom the photo on the cover is also from, has been accompanying the band for several years and is sensitively giving Nibbes' lyrical observations another perspective.
