Steve Oda & Ty Burhoe began playing together in 2005.Their common friend and tabla player Michael Lewis had been urging them to get together for some years, and when they nally did meet and share music, it was clear to them that they indeed had a great deal in common including a great love of Japanese culture and cuisine. In the months to follow they began touring annually to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii,America and of course, Japan where they both continue to perform each and every year. The classical music of India is a form of music in which the relationship of the musicians playing can appear within the music in subtle, and at times, obvious ways.The music is steeped in tradition and a long history with strict rules which help guide the development of the Raga (melody) & Tala (rhythm). However, within those guidelines, there can be a tremendous amount of improvisation, interpretation, and self expression. Some say that close to 90% of the music is improvized. Thus the connection of the artists can very much in uence the intri- cate exchanges, the listening and the willingness to highlight what the other has to say, and even elements of joy and playfulness can appear within the music. So upon that stage and within this music, Steve & Ty are able to freely share their friendship, their many adventures around the world and their great respect and deep devotion to their Gurus Ustad Ali Akbar Khan & Ustad Zakir Hussain.
