Freddy, Mama Cass died 8 years previously (1974) and Michelle Phillips - with one solo album to her name from the mid 70s - moved on to a successful career in acting. I was a big fan of the original group way back in the day, so I approach this album with some trepidation!

This line-up of The Mamas and The Papas was (by John Phillips' choice) a touring-only group. The two ladies are (actress) MacKenzie Phillips(john's daughter from a pre-Mamas and The Papas marriage) and Elaine "Spanky" McFarlane (of the 1960's group "Spanky and Our Gang") . In The 1960's, one music critic said that Ms.McFarlane was "too fat to be the next Grace Slick, but not fat enough to be the next Mama Cass. but Spanky did indeed (decades later) become the next Mama Cass.

Thanks for the info, Mr Cohen...
and thanks for the chance to hear this set, Ural.....

Listening to the album, I can understand why John Phillips kept this line-up as 'touring only'! If they'd committed similar atrocities on wax, nobody would have gone to see 'em....a best-forgotten episode in the history of a once-great vocal group.
