Peter William Nelson, better known by his stage name Copywrite, is an underground hip hop artist f rom Columbus, Ohio. He is a member of MHz Legacy (formerly known as MHz) and former member of The Weathermen Crew, also the grandson of the late singer Skip Nelson (born as Scipione Mirabella) who most notably sang and played piano/guitar for the Glenn Miller Band in the 1940s. Music is in his blood and with the rap pedigree he has earned over the years as part of the midwest backpack revolution (MHz Crew) which produced RJD2, Blueprint, Camu Tao, Illogic to name a few and the NYC Underground (Weathermen, Eastern Conference, Def Jux) of the early to mid 2000's Copy has been party to some of the best that have ever done it. His catalog reads like a who's who of underground rap from the late 90's to today.
In 2002 Copywrite released his debut album, The High Exhaulted, on Eastern Conference with work on the boards from RJD2, Intalec, Mighty Mi, Camu Tao, and Copywrite himself. Three years later in 2005, Copy released the Cruise Control Mixtape: Volume 1, which featured production from heavy hitters like J-Zone, Jake One and Jay Dilla. After an 8 year hiatus, in 2010, Copywrite released his second album entitled The Life and Times of Peter Nelson, featuring guest appearances from Dilated Peoples, Sean Price, and Middle Distance Runner with production by RJD2, Twiz the Beat Pro, and Surock. Two years later (2012), Copywrite released his third album, God Save the King, on Man Bites Dog Records. Featuring guest appearances from midwest phoneme Mac Lethal, Stones Throw's Roc Marciano, and Torae.
Now over 4 years later, Copywrite releases his 4th full length studio album and to-date his most personal work. Blood Bath & Beyond shows a side of Copy we hadn't seen in previous albums, with him opening up about substance abuse, god and the death of his beloved grandmother. This is a distinct departure from his, extraordinarily skilled but uni-faceted, visceral punchline raps of the past and shows him becoming much more of a three dimensional artist continuing in the future. While there are still plenty of punchline/battle raps to be had, Blood Bath & Beyond give you more of a sense of who the actual man Copywrite is, where he is heading, and what he hopes to be.
