Rock, reggae, funk, hip-hop, blues, groove, and more all infused into songs specifically designed to make you move and think.
Princes of Babylon are heirs to a decaying kingdom. Unimpressed by current music trends, POB has forged a new sound that promises to bring the message back to the medium. Check it out.
This Philly-based trio (Dave Quicks on guitar, Chuck Fay on bass and Ry Pilla on drums) combines intelligent song-writing with fat beats to produce music that moves the body as well as the mind. Products of the urban mosaic, POB blend funk, reggae, rock, hip-hop and blues into an uncommonly clear, organic vision. The style serves the song, not vice versa.
Princes of Babylon have toured the Northeast extensively for the past two years and recently have begun branching south and west. From Maine to Florida to Colorado, POB win fans wherever they go with their energetic performances. Three distinct writing and vocal styles generate the dynamic which has become the band's trademark. Their "diversity in harmony" allows them to connect with audiences of all kinds, evidenced by the variety of notable talent with which they have shared the stage (see list below). From beat-box breakdowns to three-part a cappella harmony to inspired instrumental improvisations, Princes of Babylon are a real triple threat.
Spring 2002 has seen the release of POB's third and most ambitious CD to date. This full-length EP, self-produced in truly indie fashion, encompasses the full spectrum of the band's vision thus far. Of course, with POB's songwriting and production skills always improving, even greater projects will surely follow...
Princes of Babylon have shared the stage with:
Macy Gray, Burning Spear, Busta Rhymes, Galactic, Long Beach Dub All-Stars, The Wailers, G Love and Special Sauce, Wyclef Jean, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Steel Pulse, Cypress Hill, Yellowman, Pee-Wee Ellis, Karl Denson, Bernie Worrell and Fred Wesley.
