Sister Mantos - Tough Love or The Fands of Hate (2008)

"If Giorgio Moroder called Donna Summer right now, her ringtone would probably be Sister Mantos" Jezebel Music. Sister Mantos is dance music at its core, with heavy doses of tribal percussion and experimental noise. A liquid acid freak show, every performance is a live experiment and never the same twice. When Mantos states on his Myspace page, "We want to play your queer situation, your diy space, your living room. Postive vibes. Big hearts. Sweat stains. " He means it and delivers. Audiences are sent on a spaced out psychedelic road trip and treated to mystical costumes, spastic dancing and most of all the sheer joy emanating from Sister Mantos as he performs in his Mayan warrior gone punk persona. The music itself inspired by the works of: Brian Eno, Gary Numan, Suicide, Klaus Nomi, Squarepusher, 80's freestyle, hip hop, and 90's house leaves just about everything fair game. Oscar Miguel Santos, born in El Salvdor, is an artist, multiinstrumentalist and composer. Tough Love Or The Fands Of Hate is his first experiment at recording. Various friends collaborated on the album, which was recorded lo-fi/hi-fi style on Garage band. It is a mix of midi instrumentation, drum machines and live instrument recording (one song AUG08 features vocals recorded via phone call from Alaska to Los Angeles). The perfect house party album, Tough Love Or The Fands Of Hate has it all- uptempo four on the floor booty shakers to stoney headphone jamz. It is being released on purple vinyl by Los Angeles labels- Sweetheart Society, and Manimal.
