Drug Cabin has outgrown its original purpose. The group was initially formed as a one-off side-project for Pretty Girls Make Graves’ Nathan Thelen and Ambulance LTD’s Marcus Congleton, releasing a collection of sparse ballads on their self-titled debut EP in 2012. Since then, it’s blossomed into a prolific collaboration all of its own.
After the EP, the two reconvened in Los Angeles to record and came out with 22 songs, enough to span two albums. They used one batch to release their first full-length, Yard Work, in February, and will release their second album, Wiggle Room, on April 7th through 401K Music.
Their first single, “Handsome”, showcased their talent for summery folk pop. Now, they’re adding a bit more twang to the mix with the album’s county-tinged title track. Thelen and Congleton’s voices meld sweetly, crooning about love and weather with a sense of candor. The lines between glee and longing are hazy, with a steel guitar adding a sense of desperation to the love story. It hits all the hallmarks of a great Drug Cabin cut; short, simple, and with just a hint of melancholy.
