Bad Barbie & Evil Smarty - Don't & Smart Edits & The Disco Seen? (2014-2015)

Guilford's Bad Barbie is the self-proclaimed "first lady of nu-disco," whose sensual, saucy re-edits have seduced many fans including likes of Greg Wilson. Here she teams up with Evil Smarty for the Don't EP featuring four disco sizzlers - the warm and fuzzy '70s funk of ""Don't", the laid back strings and wah-wah jam, "Easy", the retro boudoir grind of "Love Me" and finally their celebrated rework of a Michael Jackson track, now re-titled "I Can't Get Enough Acid". Bad and evil...in the best possible way!

Southampton's Evil Smarty has been collaborating with the likes of Bad Barbie recently, but here he's doing his own thing. He's been busy too, chopping up five choice cuts, highlights being the mantra-like 80s funk loops of "The One", the rough and raunchy disco pumper "Hotel" and the Gino Soccio-borrowing sultry grind of "Dancer".

Guildford-based Bad Barbie and Evil Smarty first joined forces in the autumn of 2014, releasing an EP of sleazy disco and funk re-edits for French Kiss Recordings. Here they join Yam Who's Midnight Riot imprint, delivering a quartet of disco-reggae re-edits drenched in dub delay, spiralling special effects and subtle additional percussion. Particularly potent is the stretched out, dubbed-out "Get Enough", an excellent rework of a classic reggae cover of Michael Jackson, while "My Bell" layers Anita Ward's famous vocal over a nu-disco tinged dub house backing. The package also includes a future summer sing-along - a tasty revision of a reggae version of Chic's "I Want Your Love".
