Chelan - Equal Under Pressure (2015)

"Chelan is Jen Grady and Justin Hosford. They meet regularly to write and record in Hosford's studio in a quiet pocket of the high mojave desert. Outside of Chelan, Hosford composes score for film and television while Grady teaches classical music. Chelan is a creative outlet for the duo that allows them to push the envelope without the boundaries of traditional musical disciplines. The album also features two remixes by LA based producer KID606 and artwork by Kime Buzzelli.

Equal Under Pressure is the 4th album released by Chelan and musically the most diverse. Featuring live strings, guitars, synths, bass, acoustic and analog drums, Equal Under Pressure strives to create an immense sonic atmosphere while still remaining focused enough to engage the listener. The album is also filled with layered and subtle experimental percussive elements from hand drummed guitars to recorded samples of birds flapping their wings. From the outset Chelan focused on incorporating meticulous harmonic layering and vast soundscapes (all the while not straying too far from their Indie pop roots). Lyrically the album is a careful reflection on relationships, modern anxieties and personal struggles."
