John Cameron - Hot Doughnuts (1985)

The entirety of this collection (sometimes called “The Hockey Album” because of its cover) is composed by John Cameron, who was heavily featured on some other Bruton Music collections shared here and is generally known as a prominent figure in the composition of such library music. Though the hockey goaltender featured on the cover suggests a “sporty” feel for the songs, this is not necessarily the case; from start to finish, these are certainly brassy, muscular compositions, but the overall vibe is more Knight Rider than they are SportsCenter.

The upbeat title tracks kick it off, followed by several variations on a theme in “Big Boys” and “Jive Talkin’”. “Hydropower” is a favorite of those familar with this set, as it has been somewhat described as a theme suited for breakdancing. “Basketball” is a very forward-thinking electronic beat, and “Giant Slalom” seems as if it is an updated take on compositions heard in BRG 18 – Get Up And Go.
