Sometimes it just comes down to the songs. Sometimes it’s as simple as that. NO CODA write songs, as many bands do, using guitars and drums and their voices, and yet despite this most conventional of concoctions the work that they produce sticks. It sticks in your head. It sticks somewhere down near your gut, in that place that comes alive when you hear something that matters, really matters, and makes a tiny dent on the insipidness of normality.
The Entire Cast is the debut full-length from the Swedish collective and, as you can probably gauge from the preceding paragraph, it’s something quite brilliant. Taking its props from a variety of “guitar bands” (sorry) the album has a number of touching points – from the restrained belligerence of American pop-punk, through to the swaying cool of that scenes earlier breeds – but what the band have succeeded in doing is creating a record, if not a sound, that is completely of their own creation. Ten tracks that slowly envelop the listener, which swoon and swell towards something far greater than the sum of its parts. A focused, bold and constantly enjoyable record to soundtrack the impending Summer months.
Ahead of its release next week, we’re very pleased to bring you a full stream of this most impressive debut – and you can listen to it below.
