Naked Island - Naked Island (2014) Lossless

Los Angeles' Peak Oil label has give us nothing but winner over the last couple of years, most notably the Willie Burns' LP under his Black Deer alias - still an absolute must in our books! This time it's a new collaborative affair, with Brian Pyle and Felicia Atkinson teaming up as Naked Island. Between them, the pair have seen releases on NNA Tapes, Digitalis and Clan Destine, to name a few, so its guaranteed sublimeness from the word go. Two long, blistering cuts, one per side of the plate. The first, "Deep, Transcendent Waves of Golden Light" is a sparse and visceral electronics jam, where the duo create a true feeling of euphoria thanks to the prophetic drones which dominate the mix and a stubborn, shape-shifting kick drum that guarantees the swing. The flipside, "Play It As It Lays" is less structured, more ambient in texture. The faint whisper of a beat beneath those hollow pads creating an awesome spectacle of sonic delight.
