We hadn't heard the term "equine therapy" before but the idea of horses providing some kind of spiritual force for emotional healing is at the heart of Trent Dabb's eighth solo album, appropriately titled The Way We Look At Horses (November 5, Ready Set Records). "Many of the themes throughout this album deal with death, love, making a change and the patterns that we've adopted to help us deal with difficult times,” Dabbs explains. “I love the image of the horse, being strong and steady and using them as a formidable metaphor to get us through.” Produced by Jeremy Bose, who also produced Dabb's 2011 Southerner, Horses once again finds Dabbs crafting a solid collection of folk/pop tunes framed in the context of his Mississippi roots and current Nashville surroundings. Lead track "Mountain Song" gleams with a nice mix of country/rock jangle and ethereal rural dream/pop, chiming guitar lines running parallel to rich keyboard fills and Dabbs' dusty, eerily reverbed vocals.
