Haf Haf - Notch (2014) Lossless

Emergent oddball analogue label Gang of Ducks is at it once again, having already charmed our weird receptors with the My Panda Shall Fly LP late last year. Haf Haf is a seemingly off-the-radar concern that occupies a similar territory of hyper-detailed machine ramblings anchored by a rhythm but not bound to it. There are moments that latch onto a more focused compositional path, such as "Hybrid" with its loping 4/4 beat, but for the most part Notch is a celebration of cutting loose and creating a merry noise. There are recorded-in-the-room jams such as the title track, and there is a repeated embrace of pitched down hip hop vocals, and it's likely you won't hear many records quite like Haf Haf's debut this year.
